Fix for "Automation Error" message when opening or creating files

Applies To: Summit Pro 2000, Summit Event Manager - Light, Summit Contact Manager
Date: 17 August 2000

On some systems, after installing one of the above products, an "Automation Error" message is displayed when you try to open existing event files or contact manager databases or create new event files or contact manager databases. After the error message is displayed, you can not specify a file name.

This problem is caused by a version conflict with a Windows file. To fix this problem take the following steps.

  1. Download the fdialog.exe file, save it to your desktop (or other location) and then run it by double-clicking on it. This will place updated copies of the Windows files comdlg32.ocx and comdlg32.dep in your c:\sp2000 folder.
  2. Copy comdlg32.ocx and comdlg32.dep from c:\sp2000 to c:\windows\system (if present) and c:\windows\system32 (if present).
  3. From your Windows desktop click Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32.exe comdlg32.ocx" (without the quote marks) and then click OK. The message "DLLRegisterServer in comdlg32.ocx succeeded." should be displayed.
