MIE Software products utilise a number of Windows components provided by
Microsoft. From time to time these may fail to work correctly due to corruptions in the
Windows Registry or conflicts between the versions of the component the MIE Software
package is looking for and the version of the component on the computer. Following are the
steps to resolve problems with these components.
File Open/Save Dialog Box
Symptoms
When you try to specify a file name the normal Windows File Open/Save Dialog Box
is not displayed and you can not enter a file name. An error message indicating an
"Automation error" is also frequently displayed.
Resolution
- Download the fdialog.exe file, save it to your
desktop (or other location) and then run it by double-clicking on it. This will place
updated copies of the Windows files comdlg32.ocx and comdlg32.dep in your c:\sp2000
folder.
- Copy comdlg32.ocx and comdlg32.dep from c:\sp2000 to c:\windows\system (if
present) and c:\windows\system32 (if present).
- From your Windows desktop click Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32.exe
comdlg32.ocx" (without the quote marks) and then click OK. The message
"DLLRegisterServer in comdlg32.ocx succeeded." should be displayed.
Calendar
Symptoms
When you click on a button to display a calendar, the calendar is not displayed
and an error message is displayed.
Resolution
- Download the mscal.ocx file and save it to your
desktop.
- Copy mscal.ocx from your desktop to c:\windows\system (if present) and
c:\windows\system32 (if present).
- From your Windows desktop click Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32.exe
mscal.ocx" (without the quote marks) and then click OK. The message
"DLLRegisterServer in mscal.ocx succeeded." should be displayed.
Slider Bars
Symptoms
When you open the Name Badge and Ticket Design screen or the Letterhead Design
screen the slider bars for moving and sizing the lines and picture are either missing or
do not work.
Resolution
- Download the comctl32.exe program and save it to
your desktop (or other location) and then run it by double-clicking on it.
- From your Windows desktop click Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32.exe
comctl32.ocx" (without the quote marks) and then click OK. The message
"DLLRegisterServer in comctl32.ocx succeeded." should be displayed.
- Start the MIE Software package and tes to see if the slider bars now work. If
they are now working, there is no need to take steps 4 and 5.
- Remove the MIE Software package using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
- Reinstall the MIE Software package.
