Correcting a Problem with Error 429 Opening Summit Programs

Applies To: Summit Event Manager - Pro (9.x), Summit Event Manager - Light (10.x), Summit Contact Manager (4.x)
Date: 22 May 2001

When you attempt to open one of the above applications you receive one or more error messages similar to the ones shown below. After the error messages are displayed the application halts and does not open.

Startup Error Message - Example 1

Startup Error Message - Example 2

Startup Error Message - Example 3

This problem occurs because the Windows Dao360.dll file is not properly registered.

To correct this problem take the following steps.

  1. Close the application window and close any copies of Microsoft Access 2000 that are running.
  2. If you can not locate the dao360.dll file in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO folder click here to download it. After running the download program you should see the following message Successful Registration Message
If this message is not displayed take the remaining steps. If you already have the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\dao360.dll file and did not download you will also need to take the remaining steps.
  3. Close the application window and close any copies of Microsoft Access 2000 that are running.
  4. Verify that Regsvr32.exe is in your Windows\System folder, for example:
    C:\Windows\System

    -or-

    \Winnt\System32
  5. Click Start, and then click Run.
  6. In the Run dialog box, type the following command:

Regsvr32.exe C:\progra~1\common~1\micros~1\dao\dao360.dll

It is important that you use the "old" Windows syntax when specifying the path to dao360.dll. In the above example if you use c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\dao\dao360.dll the registration will not succeed.

NOTE: The path to Dao360.dll may be different on your computer, depending upon which folder you installed Microsoft Office in.

If you have registered correctly the following should be displayed.

Successful Registration Message

Once you have taken the above steps you should be able to restart the application successfully.

If the application still does not work correctly, it may be because the dao360.dll file is itself corrupted. For more information on other methods of correcting this problem, go to http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q248/7/90.ASP.
