Fix for cannot find function name message when starting application

Applies To: Summit Event Manager - Pro Version 9, Summit Event Manager - Light Version 9, Summit Contact Manager Version 4, Summit Membership Manager Version 2
Date: 18 July 2001

When you attempt to start one of the above applications a message is displayed indicating that a function name can not be found. The message displayed is similar to the one shown below.

Cannot find function name message

When you click ok the program shuts down. This happens as all Summit programs have 2 code library references. Occasionally, the reference to the second code library is lost. This program forces Summit to restore the reference.

To correct this take the following steps.

1. Download the resetref.exe program by clicking here.

2. Run the resetref.exe program. This will install the Reset Summit Code Library Reference utility program onto your computer.

3. From your Start Menu select Reset Summit Code Library Reference and then Reset Summit Code Library Reference again as shown below.

Select Reset Summit Code Library Reference

4. The following dialog box will then be displayed.

Reset dialog box

If the application you have is listed click Yes, if it is not listed, click No.

5. After clicking Yes, select the application that you wish to reset the code library reference for from the Files of type pull-down list as shown below.

choose application dialog box

6. Once you have selected the application, locate the appropriate application file and then click OK. If you are uncertain how to locate a file using the Windows file dialog box click here. The default locations for the applications are:

  • Summit Event Manager - Pro Version 9 - c:\semp
  • Summit Event Manager - Light Version 10 - c:\seml10
  • Summit Contact Manager Version 4 - c:\scm4
  • Summit Membership Manager Version 2 - c:\smm

The code library will be reset and then a message similar to the one shown below will be displayed.

Click OK and then restart the application that displayed the error message. Please note that it will take longer than usual to start the first time as it will need to re-establish the link to the code library.
