Updated - Resolving Problems with Windows Components - File Open/Save Dialog Box, Calendar, Slider Bars

MIE Software products utilise a number of Windows components provided by Microsoft. From time to time these may fail to work correctly due to corruption's in the Windows Registry or conflicts between the versions of the component the MIE Software package is looking for and the version of the component on the computer. Following are the steps to resolve problems with these components.

File Open/Save Dialog Box

Symptoms

When you try to specify a file name the normal Windows File Open/Save Dialog Box is not displayed and you can not enter a file name. An error message indicating, "Can't find control" or "Automation error" are frequently displayed.

Resolution for Windows 95 and Windows 98 machines

  1. Download the fdialog1.exe file, save it to your desktop (or other location) and then run it by double-clicking on it.
  2. Select UnZip and copies of comdlg32.ocx (v. 6.0.88.99) and comdlg32.dep will be placed in the c:\windows\system folder.
  3. Overwrite any existing copies.
  4. From your Windows desktop click Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32.exe comdlg32.ocx" (without the quote marks) and then click OK. The message "DLLRegisterServer in comdlg32.ocx succeeded." should be displayed.

Resolution for Windows 2000 and Windows XP machines

  1. Download the fdialog2.exe file, save it to your desktop (or other location) and then run it by double-clicking on it.
  2. Select UnZip and copies of comdlg32.ocx (v. 6.0.88.99) and comdlg32.dep will be placed in the c:\windows\system32 folder.
  3. Overwrite any existing copies.
  4. From your Windows desktop click Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32.exe comdlg32.ocx" (without the quote marks) and then click OK. The message "DLLRegisterServer in comdlg32.ocx succeeded." should be displayed.

Calendar

Symptoms

When you click on a button to display a calendar, the calendar does not appear and an error message is displayed.

Resolution for Windows 95 and Windows 98 machines

  1. Download the mscal1.exe file,save it to your desktop (or other location) and then run it by double-clicking on it.
  2. Select UnZip and a copy of mscal.ocx (v.9.0.0.3620) will be placed in the c:\windows\system folder.
  3. Overwrite any existing copies.
  4. From your Windows desktop click Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32.exe mscal.ocx" (without the quote marks) and then click OK. The message "DLLRegisterServer in mscal.ocx succeeded." should be displayed.

Resolution for Windows 2000 and Windows XP machines

  1. Download the mscal2.exe file,save it to your desktop (or other location) and then run it by double-clicking on it.
  2. Select UnZip and a copy of mscal.ocx (v.10.0.0.2601) will be placed in the c:\windows\system32 folder.
  3. Overwrite any existing copies.
  4. From your Windows desktop click Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32.exe mscal.ocx" (without the quote marks) and then click OK. The message "DLLRegisterServer in mscal.ocx succeeded." should be displayed.

Slider Bars

Symptoms

When you open the Name Badge and Ticket Design screen or the Letterhead Design screen the slider bars for moving and sizing the lines and picture are either missing or do not work.

  1. Download the comctl32.exe program and save it to your desktop (or other location) and then run it by double-clicking on it.
  2. Select Yes and accept the Licence Agreement.
  3. From your Windows desktop click Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32.exe comctl32.ocx" (without the quote marks) and then click OK. The message "DLLRegisterServer in comctl32.ocx succeeded." should be displayed.
