Format of mobile / cell numbers

For an SMS text message to be sent successfully there are two essential rules in relation to how the number is entered:

  1. The country code must be entered if the phone number is not an Australian mobile/cell phone number
  2. If you enter a country code and the mobile/cell phone number begins with a zero (0), the zero must be omitted.

Plus signs, brackets and spaces may be used in the numbers.

Examples of valid entries for the same Australian number are:

0900111222
0900 111 222
61900111222
+(61) 900 111 222

The following two entries for the same Australian number are invalid as the leading zero has been retained while using the country code:

610900111222
+(61) 0900 111 222

The following are examples of valid, non-Australian entries:

USA: +1 703 960 6000
New Zealand: +64 274 980 400

The following entries for the above New Zealand number is invalid as the leading zero has been retained while using the country code:
+64 0274 980 400

Any incorrectly formatted numbers will be processed by your e-mail system, but the message will not be delivered to the phone.
